Returning to slavery

The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: from slavery to spiritual faith; from spiritual faith to great courage; from courage to freedom; from freedom to abundance; from abundance to selfishness; from selfishness to complacency; from complacency to apathy; from apathy to dependency; from dependency to servitude. " --Sir Alex Fraser Tyler (1742-1813) Scottish historian and jurist

I wanted to share this quote because it really blew me away. History always repeats itself? Are we condemned to continue in this cycle? And, if we are in this progression, where are we in the process?

If this is an accurate representation, it seems that as a society we have overcome slavery and spiritual faith as concepts that define us. Some would argue this since they really believe that their lives are based on faith. It would also suggest that we have left courage and freedom behind, although, again, there are politicians who believe or at least suggest that we are in the middle of that (despite the strong urge from some to take away our freedoms).

We were once an abundant nation, that is undeniable. And as we can see from recent reports, our country is certainly physically abundant given the obesity basic shibari.

Unfortunately, it seems that the masses have passed into the selfish and complacent phase. And we are getting closer, if not completely on board with apathy. Our bridges are collapsing. Our civil liberties are eroding. New Orleans has been abandoned.

It is clear that we have also become dependent. Look at how we have outsourced many jobs to India and China to get cheaper foreign labor. What about our dependence on foreign oil? That seems to have presented us with some problems in recent years.

Today there is a lot of talk about illegal immigrants. It seems like all the jobs that used to be good, working / middle class careers that used to provide a family with a living wage, health insurance, the ability to buy a house and two cars, take their kids to college, and have a pension. retirement. . . the public authorities are subcontracting these works to be carried out elsewhere for a fraction of the price and without safety or environmental restrictions.
