Google Search Console - What Does It Mean?

Google Search Console is an application for the Google webmaster tools. Google Search Console is basically a web based software by Google that enable webmasters to test various search engine optimization strategies, check search ranking and monitor overall visibility of their site. If you are not very familiar with the Google Search Console at all, it is basically an online web based editor which is used mainly for checking user submitted search suggestions. These suggestions are actually web content and most of the time they are related to searching for particular terms. Once the webmaster clicks on these search engine optimization (SEO) tags, he gets to see what sort of content on his website has got from various sources. This way, he can check what proper SEO strategy should be in order to get him high search engine placement and increased web traffic.

But did you know that this web based editor also offers a much more extensive service? In other words, it isn't just a service to check the title and meta tags of a website. Google Search Console can be used for much more. Let us take a closer look at what Google Search Console can do for your online business.

To start with, Google Search Console allows you to check which search engines have under-served or over-saturated your website. It also shows you how much search results your site has gotten from each one of them. You can also check to see if your site's organic traffic has increased or decreased. By analyzing these data points, you can analyze which of your SEO tactics are really working to boost your traffic and which ones are not doing so well.

Google Search Console also lets you analyze which specific search engines are offering you relevant crawl data. When the Google crawls a web page, it reads the URL from the hosts file all the way through to the headers and footer. The Googlebot can only read the first hundred or so URLs that it sees in this manner. When it cannot read the source code of the page, it stops and returns an error message. This is why you often hear "Crawl Error: Page Not Found" when Google is trying to crawl your site.

Google Analytics is another important component of Google Search Console. Google Analytics is used primarily for website measurement. It displays basic information about a site, such as the number of unique visits and the number of people who navigate through the entire site. It also integrates with Google Analytics to display the Google analytics buttons on your optimize for better performance in Google search results. This is where the magic happens!

Google Search Console can show you exactly which internal links visitors click on. Internal links are those that open a new window or tab (or in some cases redirect the user to a new page). If you were able to measure that internal links are opening new pages and which pages these clicks lead to, you would be able to greatly increase your SEO success by improving the way you direct traffic to your site. Google Search Console allows you to create reports for this purpose.

Finally, Google Search Console can tell you which links on your site are not working. Currently, there are no system tools available to find these. You have to rely on your knowledge and guesswork. Google is obviously aware of the existence of sitemaps, so they provide a built in tool for tracking them. However, this tool only shows you the links that open new sitemaps and does nothing to reveal the internal routes from one URL to the next, like the sitemap example above.

Google provides all three of these components, but they are not mutually exclusive. If you want to boost your rankings even more, you can combine them into a comprehensive SEO campaign using Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and Google Webmaster Tools. By combining these tools and making sure your website receives lots of natural backlinks, you will quickly see your search results report taking on dramatically different appearances.
